Imaginary run to PEI – uhm weeks 12 through part of 15…

“So from July 8 to July 21 I only ran just shy of 24 km so I’m now about 243 km from home. I’m just past Odessa Ontario – so halfway between Greater Napanee and Kingston. I have such fond memories of Kingston….but more on that next week I hope.”

That was a few weeks ago! Oops – definitely fell off the blogging wagon a little so I thought I’d at least do a catch up post on the running before too much more of the summer got away from me.

The last run to PEI update was on July 22 – my total for running up to July 21 was 243 km from home (about 151 miles for my US friends).

For the rest of July I ran another 43.1 km

And from August 1 to August 12 I ran 32.8 km

So I am now 318.7 km (198 miles) from home.

And now I’m in Mallorytown ON. I completely missed Kingston in the posts – that’ll teach me to fall off the wagon on blogging! But Mallorytown seems pretty cool. Mallorytown is a community in “Front of Yonge”, which is itself a region in Leeds and Grenville County. Whew. I like the name “Front of Yonge” though. The Yonge part comes from the same place as Yonge St.: the Right Honourable Sir George Yonge. He was a British Secretary at War and apparently an expert on Roman roads.

There used to be a glassworks factory in Mallorytown that, uhm, produced glass. Apparently one of the few remaining pieces is at the ROM. I’ll have to look for it when we visit next but for now here’s a link to the pitcher and some information about it: from the ROM

If you’re in that area, you can take tours of the Couch House but we’ve all missed the Strawberry Social (June 23) and the Blueberry Social (August 4). The Mallorytown Village Fair is coming up on August 24.

The whole area is also riddled with campgrounds and parks and trails and of course, waterfront along the St. Lawrence.
